திபேரியுராயன் ராஜ்யபாரம் பண்ணின பதினைந்தாம் வருஷத்திலே, பொந்தியுபிலாத்து யூதேயாவுக்குத் தேசாதிபதியாயும், ஏரோது காற்பங்கு தேசமாகிய கலிலேயாவுக்கு அதிபதியாயும், அவன் சகோதரனாகிய பிலிப்பு காற்பங்கு தேசமாகிய இத்துரேயாவுக்கும், திராகொனித்தி நாட்டிற்கும் அதிபதியாயும், விசானியா காற்பங்கு தேசமாகிய அபிலேனேக்கு அதிபதியாயும்,

அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் பரிசேயருடைய புளித்தமாவைக்குறித்தும் ஏரோதின் புளித்தமாவைக்குறித்தும் எச்சரிக்கையாயிருங்கள் என்று கற்பித்தார்.

அப்பொழுது காற்பங்கு தேசாதிபதியாகிய ஏரோது அவரால் செய்யப்பட்ட யாவையும் கேள்விப்பட்டதுமன்றி; சிலர் யோவான் மரித்தோரிலிருந்து எழுந்தான் என்றும்,

அந்தப்படி உம்முடைய கரமும் உம்முடைய ஆலோசனையும் முன் குறித்தவைகள் யாவையும் செய்யும்படி,

அவர் ஏரோதின் அதிகாரத்துக்குள்ளானவர் என்றறிந்து, அந்நாட்களில் எருசலேமிலே வந்திருந்த ஏரோதுவினிடத்திற்கு அவரை அனுப்பினான்.

உங்களை ஏரோதினிடத்திற்கும் அனுப்பினேன்; அவரும் இவனிடத்தில் குற்றம் காணவில்லை: மரணத்துக்கேதுவாக இவன் ஒன்றும் செய்யவில்லையே,

அவருடைய பேர் பிரசித்தமானபடியினால், ஏரோது ராஜா அவரைக்குறித்துக் கேள்விப்பட்டு: யோவான்ஸ்நானன் மரித்தோரிலிருந்து எழுந்தான், ஆகையால் அவனிடத்தில் இந்தப் பலத்த செய்கைகள் விளங்குகிறது என்றான்.

காற்பங்கு தேசாதிபதியாகிய ஏரோது தன் சகோதரனான பிலிப்புவின் மனைவி ஏரோதியாளினிமித்தமாகவும், தான் செய்த மற்றப் பொல்லாங்குகளினிமித்தமாகவும், யோவானாலே கடிந்துகொள்ளப்பட்டபோது,

அந்த நாளிலே சில பரிசேயர் அவரிடத்தில் வந்து: நீர் இவ்விடத்தை விட்டுப் போய்விடும்; ஏரோது உம்மைக்கொலைசெய்ய மனதாய் இருக்கிறான் என்றார்கள்.

அக்காலத்திலே ஏரோதுராஜா சபையிலே சிலரைத் துன்பப்படுத்தத் தொடங்கி;
