நான் அவர்களுடனேகூட உலகத்திலிருக்கையில் அவர்களை உம்முடைய நாமத்தினாலே காத்துக்கொண்டேன்; நீர் எனக்குத் தந்தவர்களைக் காத்துக்கொண்டுவந்தேன்; வேதவாக்கியம் நிறைவேறத்தக்கதாக கேட்டின் மகன் கெட்டுப்போனானேயல்லாமல், அவர்களில் ஒருவனும் கெட்டுப்போகவில்லை.

தாமதிக்கிறார் என்று சிலர் எண்ணுகிறபடி கர்த்தர் தமது வாக்குத்தத்தத்தைக்குறித்துத் தாமதமாயிராமல்; ஒருவரும் கெட்டுப்போகாமல் எல்லாரும் மனந்திரும்பவேண்டுமென்று விரும்பி, நம்மேல் நீடிய பொறுமையுள்ளவராயிருக்கிறார்.

மேய்ப்பனைப்போலத் தமது மந்தையை மேய்ப்பார்; ஆட்டுக்குட்டிகளைத் தமது புயத்தினால் சேர்த்து தமது மடியிலே சுமந்து கறவலாடுகளை மெதுவாய் நடத்துவார்.

என் ஆடுகள் என் சத்தத்திற்குச் செவிகொடுக்கிறது; நான் அவைகளை அறிந்திருக்கிறேன், அவைகள் எனக்குப் பின்செல்லுகிறது.

இந்த வார்த்தை உண்மையுள்ளது; என்னவெனில், நாம் அவரோடேகூட மரித்தோமானால், அவரோடேகூடப் பிழைத்துமிருப்போம்;
