பெத்தானியா ஊர் எருசலேமுக்குச் சமீபமாய் ஏறக்குறைய இரண்டு மைல் தூரத்திலிருந்தது.

அப்பொழுது, இயேசு எருசலேமுக்கு வந்து, தேவாலயத்தில் பிரவேசித்து, எல்லாவற்றையும் சுற்றிப்பார்த்து: சாயங்காலமானபோது, பன்னிருவரோடுங்கூடப் பெத்தானியாவுக்குப் போனார்.

மரியாளும் அவள் சகோதரியாகிய மார்த்தாளும் இருந்த பெத்தானியா கிராமத்திலுள்ளவனாகிய லாசரு என்னும் ஒருவன் வியாதிப்பட்டிருந்தான்.

இந்தப் பொல்லாத விபசார சந்ததியார் அடையாளம் தேடுகிறார்கள்; யோனா தீர்க்கதரிசியின் அடையாளமேயன்றி வேறே அடையாளம் இவர்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்படுவதில்லை என்று சொல்லி, அவர்களைவிட்டுப் புறப்பட்டுப்போனார்.

அவர்கள் எருசலேமுக்குச் சமீபமாய்ச் சேர்ந்து, ஒலிவமலைக்கு அருகான பெத்பகே பெத்தானியா என்னும் ஊர்களுக்கு வந்தபோது, அவர் தம்முடைய சீஷர்களில் இரண்டுபேரை நோக்கி:

சாயங்காலமானபோது, அவர் நகரத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுப்போனார்.

பின்பு அவர் பெத்தானியாவரைக்கும் அவர்களை அழைத்துக்கொண்டுபோய், தம்முடைய கைகளை உயர்த்தி, அவர்களை ஆசீர்வதித்தார்.

எருசலேமே, என் ஆத்துமா உன்னைவிட்டுப் பிரியாதபடிக்கும், நான் உன்னைப்பாழும் குடியற்ற தேசமும் ஆக்காதபடிக்கும் புத்திகேள்.

இயேசு பெத்தானியாவில் குஷ்டரோகியாயிருந்த சீமோன் வீட்டில் இருக்கையில்,

இயேசு தம்முடைய சீஷர்களோடே அவ்விடம் விட்டு, கடலோரத்துக்குப் போனார்.

அப்பொழுது கதரேனருடைய சுற்றுப்புறத்திலுள்ள திரளான ஜனங்களெல்லாரும் மிகவும் பயமடைந்தபடியினாலே, தங்களை விட்டுப் போகும்படி அவரை வேண்டிக்கொண்டார்கள். அந்தப்படி அவர் படவில் ஏறி, திரும்பிப்போனார்.

பின்பு, அவர்கள் பிரயாணமாய்ப் போகையில், அவர் ஒரு கிராமத்தில் பிரவேசித்தார். அங்கே மார்த்தாள் என்னும்பேர் கொண்ட ஒரு ஸ்திரீ அவரைத் தன்வீட்டிலே ஏற்றுக்கொண்டாள்.

அவர் ஒலிவமலையென்னப்பட்ட மலையின் அருகான பெத்பகே பெத்தானியா என்னும் ஊர்களுக்குச் சமீபித்தபோது, தம்முடைய சீஷரில் இரண்டுபேரை நோக்கி:

பஸ்காபண்டிகை வர ஆறுநாளைக்குமுன்னே இயேசு தாம் மரணத்திலிருந்து எழுப்பின லாசரு இருந்த பெத்தானியாவுக்கு வந்தார்.
