அவர் பிரதியுத்தரமாக: மனுஷன் அப்பத்தினாலேமாத்திரமல்ல, தேவனுடைய வாயிலிருந்து புறப்படுகிற ஒவ்வொரு வார்த்தையினாலும் பிழைப்பான் என்று எழுதியிருக்கிறதே என்றார்.

அதற்கு இயேசு, “‘மக்களை வாழவைப்பது வெறும் அப்பம் மட்டுமல்ல. மக்களின் வாழ்வு தேவனின் வார்த்தைகளைச் சார்ந்துள்ளது’ என்று வேதவாக்கியங்களில் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளதே” என்று பதிலளித்தார்.
