அவர், திரளான ஜனங்களைக் கண்டபொழுது, அவர்கள் மேய்ப்பனில்லாத ஆடுகளைப்போலத் தொய்ந்துபோனவர்களும் சிதறடிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுமாய் இருந்தபடியால், அவர்கள்மேல் மனதுருகி,

திரளான மனிதர்களைக் கண்ட இயேசு அவர்களுக்காக வருத்தமடைந்தார். ஏனென்றால், மக்கள் கவலை கொண்டும் ஆதரவற்றும் இருந்தனர். மேய்ப்பன் இல்லாத ஆட்டு மந்தையைப்போல மக்கள் தங்களை வழிநடத்த மேய்ப்பனின்றி இருந்தனர்.

திரண்டிருந்த மக்களை அவர் கண்டபோது அவர்கள் மேல் பரிவுகொண்டார்; அவர்கள் ஆயர் இல்லா ஆடுகளைப்போல அலைக்கழிக்கப்பட்டு சோர்ந்து காணப்பட்டார்கள்.
