பின்பு, ஜனங்கள் முறையிட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்; அது கர்த்தருடைய செவிகளில் பொல்லாப்பாயிருந்தது; கர்த்தர் அதைக் கேட்டபோது, அவருடைய கோபம் மூண்டது; கர்த்தருடைய அக்கினி அவர்களுக்குள்ளே பற்றியெரிந்து, பாளயத்தின் கடைசியிலிருந்த சிலரைப் பட்சித்தது.

ஜனங்கள் தங்கள் துன்பங்களைப்பற்றி முறுமுறுக்க ஆரம்பித்தனர். கர்த்தர் அவர்களது முறுமுறுப்புகளைக் கேட்டு அதனால் கோபம் கொண்டார். கர்த்தரிடமிருந்து நெருப்பு தோன்றி, முகாமின் ஓரங்களில் உள்ள சில ஜனங்களை எரித்தது.

And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.
