தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்த்தவர்களில் நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவாவும், எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரனாகிய காலேபும், தங்கள் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு,

யூதா கோத்திரத்தில் எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரன் காலேப்.

எப்பிராயீம் கோத்திரத்தில் நூனின் குமாரன் ஓசேயா.

எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரன் காலேபும், நூனின் குமாரன் யோசுவாவும் தவிர, மற்றவர்களாகிய நீங்கள் நான் உங்களைக் குடியேற்றுவேன் என்று ஆணையிட்டுக்கொடுத்த தேசத்தில் பிரவேசிப்பதில்லை.

பின்பு, ரூபன் அந்தக் குழியினிடத்துக்குத் திரும்பிப்போனபோது, யோசேப்பு குழியில் இல்லையென்று கண்டு, தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு,

தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்து, தன் அரையில் இரட்டுக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு, அநேகநாள் தன் குமாரனுக்காகத் துக்கித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.

அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் தங்கள் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு, அவனவன் கழுதையின்மேல் பொதியை ஏற்றிக்கொண்டு, பட்டணத்திற்குத் திரும்பினார்கள்.

அப்பொழுது காலேப் மோசேக்கு முன்பாக ஜனங்களை அமர்த்தி: நாம் உடனே போய் அதைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்வோம்; நாம் அதை எளிதாய் ஜெயித்துக்கொள்ளலாம் என்றான்.

என்னுடைய தாசனாகிய காலேப் வேறே ஆவியை உடையவனாயிருக்கிறபடியினாலும், உத்தமமாய் என்னைப் பின்பற்றிவந்தபடியினாலும், அவன் போய்வந்ததேசத்திலே அவனைச் சேரப்பண்ணுவேன்; அவன் சந்ததியார் அதைச் சுதந்தரித்துக்கொள்ளுவார்கள்.

தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்க்கப்போன அந்த மனிதரில் நூனின் குமாரனாகிய யோசுவாவும், எப்புன்னேயின் குமாரனாகிய காலேபும்மாத்திரம் உயிரோடிருந்தார்கள்.

அப்பொழுது யோசுவா தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு, அவனும் இஸ்ரவேலின் மூப்பரும் சாயங்காலமட்டும் கர்த்தரின் பெட்டிக்கு முன்பாகத் தரையிலே முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து, தங்கள் தலைகளின்மேல் புளுதியைப் போட்டுக்கொண்டு கிடந்தார்கள்.

அவன் அவளைக் கண்டவுடனே தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு: ஐயோ! என் மகளே, என்னை மிகவும் மனமடியவும் கலங்கவும் பண்ணுகிறாய்; நான் கர்த்தரை நோக்கி என் வாயைத் திறந்து சொல்லிவிட்டேன்; அதை நான் மாற்றக் கூடாது என்றான்.

தாவீது யோவாபையும் அவனோடிருந்த சகல ஜனங்களையும் பார்த்து: நீங்கள் உங்கள் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு, இரட்டுடுத்தி, அப்னேருக்கு முன்னாக நடந்து துக்கங்கொண்டாடுங்கள் என்று சொல்லி, தாவீதுராஜா தானும் பாடைக்குப் பின்சென்றான்.

அப்பொழுது இல்க்கியாவின் குமாரனாகிய எலியாக்கீம் என்னும் அரமனை விசாரிப்புக்காரனும், செப்னா என்னும் சம்பிரதியும், ஆசாப்பின் குமாரன் யோவாக் என்னும் கணக்கனும் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு, எசேக்கியாவினிடத்தில் வந்து, ரப்சாக்கேயின் வார்த்தைகளை அவனுக்குத் தெரிவித்தார்கள்.

அப்பொழுது யோபு எழுந்திருந்து, தன் சால்வையைக் கிழித்து, தன் தலையைச் சிரைத்து, தரையிலே விழுந்து பணிந்து:

ஆதலால் நீங்கள் இப்பொழுதே உபவாசத்தோடும் அழுகையோடும் புலம்பலோடும் உங்கள் முழு இருதயத்தோடும் என்னிடத்தில் திரும்புங்களென்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

அப்பொழுது பிரதான ஆசாரியன் தன் வஸ்திரங்களைக் கிழித்துக்கொண்டு: இவன் தேவதூஷணம் சொன்னான்; இனிச் சாட்சிகள் நமக்கு வேண்டியதென்ன? இதோ இவன் தூஷணத்தை இப்பொழுது கேட்டீர்களே.
