இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரர் அவரவர் தங்கள் தங்கள் பிதாக்களின் சுதந்தரத்தை அநுபவிக்கும்படி, இஸ்ரவேல் புத்திரருடைய ஒரு கோத்திரத்திலே சுதந்தரம் அடைந்திருக்கிற எந்தக் குமாரத்தியும் தன் பிதாவின் கோத்திர வம்சத்தாரில் ஒருவனுக்கு மனைவியாகவேண்டும்.

இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் அவரவர் தங்கள்தங்கள் பிதாக்களின் சுதந்தரத்தை அநுபவிக்கும்படி, இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களுடைய ஒரு கோத்திரத்திலே சுதந்தரம் அடைந்திருக்கிற எந்தக் மகளும் தன்னுடைய முன்னோரின் கோத்திர வம்சத்தாரில் ஒருவனுக்கு மனைவியாகவேண்டும்.

ஒரு பெண் தன் தந்தைக் குரிய நிலத்தைப் பெற்றால், பின்னர் அவள் தந்தையின் கோத்திரத்தில் உள்ளவர்களை மட்டுமே மணந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும். இந்த முறையில் ஒவ்வொரு இஸ்ரவேல் குடிமகனும் தங்கள் முற்பிதாக்களின் சொத்துக்களைத் தம் வசமே வைத்திருப்பார்கள்.

இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களில் எந்த ஒரு குலத்திலும் உரிமைச் சொத்தில் உடைமை கொண்ட ஒவ்வொரு பெண்ணும் தன் தந்தையின் குலத்திலுள்ள குடும்பம் ஒன்றிலேயே மனைவி ஆவாள். இதனால், இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களில் ஒவ்வொருவரும் தங்கள் மூதாதையர் உரிமைச் சொத்தில் உடைமை கொண்டிருப்பர்.⒫
