தாவீதைக் காவல்பண்ணி, மறுநாள் காலமே அவனைக் கொன்று போடும்படிக்கு, சவுல் அவன் வீட்டிற்குச் சேவகரை அனுப்பினான்; இதைத் தாவீதுக்கு அவன் மனைவியாகிய மீகாள் அறிவித்து: நீ இன்று இராத்திரியில் உம்முடைய பிராணனைத் தப்புவித்துக் கொள்ளாவிட்டால், நாளைக்கு நீ கொன்றுபோடப்படுவீர் என்று சொல்லி,

அப்பொழுது சவுல்: நீ இப்படி என்னை ஏய்த்து, என் பகைஞனைத் தப்பவிட்டு அனுப்பினது என்ன என்று மீகாளிடத்தில் கேட்டான். மீகாள் சவுலை நோக்கி: என்னைப் போகவிடு, நான் உன்னை ஏன் கொல்லவேண்டும் என்று அவர் என்னிடத்தில் சொன்னார் என்றாள்.

சவுல் தன்னண்டையில் நிற்கிற தன் ஊழியக்காரரைப் பார்த்து: பென்யமீன் புத்திரரே, கேளுங்கள்; ஈசாயின் மகன் உங்களெல்லாருக்கும் வயல்களையும் திராட்சத்தோட்டங்களையும் கொடுப்பானோ? உங்களெல்லாரையும் ஆயிரத்துக்கு அதிபதிகளும் நூற்றுக்கு அதிபதிகளுமாக வைப்பானோ?

பின்பு சீப் ஊரார் கிபியாவிலிருக்கிற சவுலிடத்தில் வந்து: தாவீது எங்களிடத்தில் எஷிமோனுக்குத் தெற்கே ஆகிலா என்னும் மலைக்காட்டிலுள்ள அரணிப்பான இடங்களில் ஒளித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறான் அல்லவா?

நான் பயந்து அப்படிச் செய்து பாவங்கட்டிக்கொள்ளுகிறதற்கும், என்னை நிந்திக்கத்தக்க அபகீர்த்திக்கு முகாந்தரம் உண்டாக்குகிறதற்கும் அவனுக்குக் கைக்கூலி கொடுத்திருந்தார்கள்.

என் மகனே, பாவிகள் உனக்கு நயங்காட்டினாலும் நீ சம்மதியாதே.

அதினால் நீ துன்மார்க்கனுடைய வழிக்கும், மாறுபாடு பேசுகிற மனுஷனுக்கும்,

கொடுமையுள்ளவன்மேல் பொறாமை கொள்ளாதே; அவனுடைய வழிகளிலொன்றையும் தெரிந்துகொள்ளாதே.

நீதிமான் தன் அயலானைப்பார்க்கிலும் மேன்மையுள்ளவன்; துன்மார்க்கருடைய வழியோ அவர்களை மோசப்படுத்தும்.

ஆதலால் பிரியமானவர்களே, இவைகள் முன்னமே நீங்கள் அறிந்திருக்கிறபடியால், அக்கிரமக்காரருடைய வஞ்சகத்திலே நீங்கள் இழுப்புண்டு உங்கள் உறுதியிலிருந்து விலகி விழுந்துபோகாதபடிக்கு எச்சரிக்கையாயிருந்து,
