அவர்கள் தாபரிக்கும் ஊரைக் காணாமல், வனாந்தரத்திலே அவாந்தர வழியாய்,

அவைகள் வனாந்தரத்திலே விழுந்து தீருமட்டும், உங்கள் பிள்ளைகள் நாற்பதுவருஷம் வனாந்தரத்திலே திரிந்து, நீங்கள் சோரம்போன பாதகத்தைச் சுமப்பார்கள்.

பாழான நிலத்திலும் ஊளையிடுதலுள்ள வெறுமையான அவாந்தர வெளியிலும் அவர் அவனைக் கண்டுபிடித்தார், அவனை நடத்தினார், அவனை உணர்த்தினார், அவனைத் தமது கண்மணியைப்போலக் காத்தருளினார்.

ஆபிரகாம் அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து, அப்பத்தையும் ஒரு துருத்தி தண்ணீரையும் எடுத்து, ஆகாருடைய தோளின்மேல் வைத்துப் பிள்ளையையும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்து, அவளை அனுப்பிவிட்டான்; அவள் புறப்பட்டுப்போய், பெயர்செபாவின் வனாந்தரத்திலே அலைந்து திரிந்தாள்.

அப்படியே கர்த்தருடைய கோபம் இஸ்ரவேலின்மேல் மூண்டது; கர்த்தருடைய சமுகத்தில் பொல்லாப்புச் செய்த அந்தச் சந்ததியெல்லாம் நிர்மூலமாகுமட்டும் அவர்களை வனாந்தரத்திலே நாற்பது வருஷம் அலையப்பண்ணினார்.

உன்னுடைய பின்நாட்களில் உனக்கு நன்மை செய்யும்பொருட்டு, உன்னைச் சிறுமைப்படுத்தி, உன்னைச் சோதித்து, கொள்ளிவாய்ச் சர்ப்பங்களும் தேள்களும், தண்ணீரில்லாத வறட்சியுமுள்ள பயங்கரமான பெரிய வனாந்தரவழியாய் உன்னை அழைத்துவந்தவரும், உனக்காகப் பாறையான கன்மலையிலிருந்து தண்ணீர் புறப்படப்பண்ணினவரும்.

அவர் பூமியிலுள்ள ஜனத்தினுடைய அதிபதிகளின் நெஞ்சை அகற்றிப்போட்டு, அவர்களை வழியில்லாத அந்தரத்திலே அலையப்பண்ணுகிறார்.

அவர் பிரபுக்களின்மேல் இகழ்ச்சி வரப்பண்ணி வழியில்லாத அவாந்தர வெளியிலே அவர்களைத் திரியச்செய்து,

என் ஆடுகள் சகல மலைகளிலும் உயரமான சகல மேடுகளிலும் அலைப்புண்டு, பூமியின்மீதெங்கும் என் ஆடுகள் சிதறித்திரிகிறது; விசாரிக்கிறவனுமில்லை, தேடுகிறவனுமில்லை.

ஒரு மேய்ப்பன் சிதறுண்ட தன் ஆடுகளின் நடுவே இருக்கிற நாளில் தன் மந்தையைத் தேடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறதுபோல, நான் என் ஆடுகளைத் தேடி, மப்பும் மந்தாரமுமான நாளிலே அவைகள் சிதறுண்டுபோன எல்லா இடங்களிலுமிருந்து அவைகளைத் தப்பி வரப்பண்ணி,

உலகம் அவர்களுக்குப் பாத்திரமாயிருக்கவில்லை; அவர்கள் வனாந்தரங்களிலேயும் மலைகளிலேயும் குகைகளிலேயும் பூமியின் வெடிப்புகளிலேயும் சிதறுண்டு அலைந்தார்கள்.

ஸ்திரீயானவள் வனாந்தரத்திற்கு ஓடிப்போனாள்; அங்கே ஆயிரத்திருநூற்றறுபது நாளளவும் அவளைப் போஷிப்பதற்காக தேவனால் ஆயத்தமாக்கப்பட்ட இடம் அவளுக்கு உண்டாயிருந்தது.
