அவன் தயைசெய்ய நினையாமல், சிறுமையும் எளிமையுமானவனைத் துன்பப்படுத்தி மனமுறிவுள்ளவனைக் கொலைசெய்யும்படி தேடினானே.

நொறுங்குண்ட இருதயமுள்ளவர்களுக்குக் கர்த்தர் சமீபமாயிருந்து, நருங்குண்ட ஆவியுள்ளவர்களை இரட்சிக்கிறார்.

நம்முடைய சகோதரனுக்கு நாம் செய்த துரோகம் நம்மேல் சுமந்தது; அவன் நம்மைக் கெஞ்சி வேண்டிக்கொண்டபோது, அவனுடைய மன வியாகுலத்தை நாம் கண்டும், அவனுக்குச் செவிகொடாமற்போனோமே; ஆகையால் இந்த ஆபத்து நமக்கு நேரிட்டது என்று ஒருவரை ஒருவர் பார்த்துச் சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

துன்மார்க்கன் தன் பெருமையினால் சிறுமைப்பட்டவனைக் கடூரமாய்த் துன்பப்படுத்துகிறான்; அவர்கள் நினைத்த சதிமோசங்களில் அவர்களே அகப்படுவார்கள்.

அதைப் பார்த்திருக்கிறீரே! உபத்திரவத்தையும் குரோதத்தையும் கவனித்திருக்கிறீரே; நீர் பதிலளிப்பீர்; ஏழையானவன் தன்னை உமக்கு ஒப்புவிக்கிறான்; திக்கற்ற பிள்ளைகளுக்கு சகாயர் நீரே.

சிறுமையும் எளிமையுமானவனை மடிவிக்கவும், செம்மை மார்க்கத்தாரை விழப்பண்ணவும், துன்மார்க்கர் பட்டயத்தை உருவி, தங்கள் வில்லை நாணேற்றுகிறார்கள்.

துன்மார்க்கன் நீதிமான்மேல் கண்வைத்து, அவனைக் கொல்ல வகைதேடுகிறான்.

நிந்தை என் இருதயத்தைப் பிளந்தது; நான் மிகவும் வேதனைப்படுகிறேன்; எனக்காக பரிதபிக்கிறவனுண்டோ என்று காத்திருந்தேன் ஒருவனும் இல்லை; தேற்றுகிறவர்களுக்குக் காத்திருந்தேன், ஒருவனையும் காணேன்.

அவரைச் சிலுவையில் அறைந்தபின்பு, அவர்கள் சீட்டுப்போட்டு அவருடைய வஸ்திரங்களைப் பங்கிட்டுக்கொண்டார்கள். என் வஸ்திரங்களைத் தங்களுக்குள்ளே பங்கிட்டு, என் உடையின் பேரில் சீட்டுப்போட்டார்கள் என்று தீர்க்கதரிசியால் உரைக்கப்பட்டது நிறைவேறும்படி இப்படி நடந்தது.

அப்பொழுது, அவர்: என் ஆத்துமா மரணத்துக்கேதுவான துக்கங்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. நீங்கள் இங்கே தங்கி, விழித்திருங்கள் என்று சொல்லி,

ஏனென்றால், இரக்கஞ்செய்யாதவனுக்கு இரக்கமில்லாத நியாயத்தீர்ப்புக் கிடைக்கும்; நியாயத்தீர்ப்புக்கு முன்பாக இரக்கம் மேன்மைபாராட்டும்.
