அப்பொழுது ராஜாவின் முகம் வேறுபட்டது; அவனுடைய நினைவுகள் அவனைக் கலங்கப்பண்ணினது; அவனுடைய இடுப்பின் கட்டுகள் தளர்ந்தது, அவனுடைய முழங்கால்கள் ஒன்றோடொன்று மோதிக்கொண்டது.

அப்பொழுது அவர்: நீ போய், இந்த ஜனங்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் காதாரக் கேட்டும் உணராமலும், கண்ணாரக்கண்டும் அறியாமலும் இருங்கள் என்று சொல்.

ஆணாய்ப் பிறந்தவன் பிரசவிக்கிறதுண்டோ என்று கேட்டுப்பாருங்கள்; பிரசவிக்கிற ஸ்திரீயைப்போல் புருஷர் யாவரும் தங்கள் இடுப்புகளின்மேல் தங்கள் கைகளை வைத்திருக்கிறதையும், முகங்களெல்லாம் மாறி வெளுத்திருக்கிறதையும் நான் காண்கிறதென்ன?

காணாதபடிக்கு அவர்களுடைய கண்கள் அந்தகாரப்படக்கடவது; அவர்களுடைய முதுகை எப்போதும் குனியப்பண்ணும் என்று தாவீதும் சொல்லியிருக்கிறான்.

அந்த ஜாதிகளுக்குள்ளே உனக்கு இளைப்பாறுதல் இராது; உன் உள்ளங்கால்கள் தங்கித் தரிக்க இடமும் இராது; அங்கே கர்த்தர் உனக்குத் தத்தளிக்கிற இருதயத்தையும், சோர்ந்துபோகிற கண்களையும், மனச்சஞ்சலத்தையும் கொடுப்பார்.

ஆகையால், என் இடுப்பு மகா வேதனையால் நிறைந்திருக்கிறது; பிள்ளைபெறுகிறவளின் வேதனைகளுக்கு ஒத்த வேதனைகள் என்னைப் பிடித்தது; கேட்டதினால் உளைவுகொண்டு, கண்டதினால் கலங்கினேன்.

தரித்துநின்று திகையுங்கள்; பிரமித்துக் கூப்பிடுங்கள்; வெறுத்திருக்கிறார்கள், திராட்சரசத்தினால் அல்ல; தள்ளாடுகிறார்கள் மதுபானத்தினால் அல்ல.

ஏசாயாவின் தீர்க்கதரிசனம் அவர்களிடத்தில் நிறைவேறுகிறது; அதாவது: காதாரக்கேட்டும் உணராதிருப்பீர்கள்; கண்ணாரக்கண்டும் அறியாதிருப்பீர்கள்.

ஆகையால் அவர்கள் விசுவாசிக்கமாட்டாமல் போனார்கள். ஏனெனில் ஏசாயா பின்னும்:

நீங்கள் காதாரக்கேட்டும் உணராதிருப்பீர்கள், கண்ணாரக்கண்டும் பாராதிருப்பீர்கள்
