கறவலாடுகளின் பின்னாகத் திரிந்த அவனை, தம்முடைய ஜனமாகிய யாக்கோபையும் தம்முடைய சுதந்தரமாகிய இஸ்ரவேலையும் மேய்ப்பதற்காக, அழைத்துக்கொண்டுவந்தார்.

தாவீது மந்தை ஆடுகளை மேய்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தான். ஆனால் தேவன் அவனை அவ்வேலையிலிருந்து அகற்றினார். தேவன் அவரது ஜனங்களைக் கவனிக்கும் வேலையை தாவீதுக்குக் கொடுத்தார். தேவனுடைய சொத்தாகிய யாக்கோபின் ஜனங்களையும் இஸ்ரவேலரின் ஜனங்களையும் கவனிக்கும் பொறுப்பை அவனுக்கு அளித்தார்.
