விருத்தசேதனத்தைப் பெற்றவர்களாய்மாத்திரமல்ல, நம்முடைய தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாம் விருத்தசேதனமில்லாதகாலத்தில் அடைந்த விசுவாசமாகிய அடிச்சுவடுகளில் நடக்கிறவர்களாயுமிருக்கிறவர்களுக்குத் தகப்பனாயிருக்கும்படிக்கும், அந்த அடையாளத்தைப் பெற்றான்.

விருத்தசேதனத்தைப் பெற்றவர்களாக மட்டுமில்லை, நம்முடைய தகப்பனாகிய ஆபிரகாம் விருத்தசேதனம் இல்லாத காலத்தில் அடைந்த விசுவாசமாகிய அடிச்சுவடுகளில் நடக்கிறவர்களாகவும் இருக்கிறவர்களுக்குத் தகப்பனாக இருப்பதற்கும், அந்த அடையாளத்தைப் பெற்றான்.

விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொண்டவர்களுக்கும் அவர் தந்தையாகக் கருதப்படுகிறார். இதில் அவர்கள் விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொண்டதால் மட்டும் ஆபிரகாம் தந்தையாகவில்லை. ஆபிரகாம் விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொள்ளுமுன் வைத்திருந்த விசுவாசத்தைப் போன்று அவர்களும் விசுவாசம் வைத்திருந்ததால் ஆபிரகாம் அவர்களது தந்தையானான்.

அதேபோல, விருத்தசேதனம் பெற்றிருந்தும், அதுவே போதுமென்றிருந்திடாமல் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருப்பவர்களுக்கும் அவர் தந்தையானார்; எப்படியெனில், நம் தந்தையாம் ஆபிரகாம் விருத்தசேதனம் பெறுமுன்பே நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருந்ததுபோல, இவர்களும் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டவர்களாய் அவருடைய அடிச்சுவடுகளைப் பின்பற்றுகிறார்கள்.
