பாவமானது கற்பனையினாலே சமயம்பெற்றுச் சகலவித இச்சைகளையும் என்னில் நடப்பித்தது. நியாயப்பிரமாணமில்லாவிட்டால் பாவம் செத்ததாயிருக்குமே.

அப்பொழுது தேவனாகிய கர்த்தர் ஸ்திரீயை நோக்கி: நீ இப்படிச்செய்தது என்ன என்றார். ஸ்திரீயானவள் சர்ப்பம் என்னை வஞ்சித்தது, நான் புசித்தேன் என்றாள்.

உங்களில் ஒருவனாகிலும் பாவத்தின் வஞ்சனையினாலே கடினப்பட்டுப் போகாதபடிக்கு, இன்று என்னப்படுமளவும் நாடோறும் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் புத்திசொல்லுங்கள்.

அவன் சாம்பலை மேய்கிறான்; வஞ்சிக்கப்பட்ட மனம் அவனை மோசப்படுத்தினது; அவன் தன் ஆத்துமாவைத் தப்புவிக்காமலும்; என் வலதுகையிலே அபத்தம் அல்லவோ இருக்கிறதென்று சொல்லாமலும் இருக்கிறான்.

எல்லாவற்றைப்பார்க்கிலும் இருதயமே திருக்குள்ளதும் மகா கேடுள்ளதுமாயிருக்கிறது, அதை அறியத்தக்கவன் யார்?

கன்மலை வெடிப்புகளில் வாசம் பண்ணி, மேடுகளின் உச்சியைப் பிடித்திருக்கிற உன்னால் உன் பயங்கரமும் உன் இருதயத்தின் அகந்தையும் உன்னை மோசம்போக்கிற்று; நீ கழுகைப்போல் உயரத்தில் உன் கூட்டைக் கட்டினாலும் அங்கேயிருந்து உன்னை விழப்பண்ணுவேன் என்று கர்த்தர் சொல்லுகிறார்.

கன்மலை வெடிப்புகளாகிய உன் உயர்ந்த ஸ்தானத்திலே குடியிருந்து, என்னைத் தரையிலே விழத்தள்ளுகிறவன் யார் என்று உன் இருதயத்தில் சொல்லுகிறவனே, உன் இருதயத்தின் அகந்தை உன்னை மோசம்போக்குகிறது.

இப்படியிருக்க, நன்மையானது எனக்கு மரணமாயிற்றோ? அப்படியல்ல; பாவமே எனக்கு மரணமாயிற்று; பாவம் கற்பனையினாலே மிகுந்த பாவமுள்ளதாகும்படிக்கும், அது நன்மையானதைக் கொண்டு எனக்கு மரணத்தை உண்டாக்கினதினாலே, பாவமாகவே விளங்கும்படிக்கும் அப்படியாயிற்று.

அந்தப்படி, முந்தின நடக்கைக்குரிய மோசம்போக்கும் இச்சைகளாலே கெட்டுப்போகிற பழைய மனுஷனை நீங்கள் களைந்துபோட்டு,

அல்லாமலும், நீங்கள் உங்களை வஞ்சியாதபடிக்குத் திருவசனத்தைக் கேட்கிறவர்களாய் மாத்திரமல்ல, அதின்படி செய்கிறவர்களாயும் இருங்கள்.
