பின்னும் போவாஸ் சாப்பாட்டு வேளையில் அவளைப் பார்த்து: நீ இங்கே வந்து, இந்த அப்பத்திலே புசித்து, காடியிலே உன் துணிக்கையைத் தோய்த்துக்கொள் என்றான். அப்படியே அவள் அறுப்பறுக்கிறவர்கள் அருகே உட்கார்ந்தாள், அவளுக்கு வறுத்த கோதுமையைக் கொடுத்தான்; அவள் சாப்பிட்டு, திருப்தியடைந்து, மீந்ததை வைத்துக்கொண்டாள்.

பின்பு போவாஸ் சாப்பாட்டு நேரத்தில் அவளைப் பார்த்து: நீ இங்கே வந்து, இந்த அப்பத்தைப் சாப்பிட, புளிப்பான திராட்சை ரசத்திலே உன் அப்பத் துண்டுகளைத் தோய்த்துக்கொள் என்றான். அப்படியே அவள் அறுப்பு அறுக்கிறவர்களின் அருகில் உட்கார்ந்தாள்; அவளுக்கு வறுத்த கோதுமையைக் கொடுத்தான்; அவள் சாப்பிட்டு, திருப்தியடைந்து, மீதியானதை வைத்துக்கொண்டாள்.

மதிய உணவு நேரத்தில், போவாஸ், “இங்கே வா! எங்களிடம் இருக்கும் அப்பத்தில், நீயும் கொஞ்சம் சாப்பிடு. உன் அப்பத்தை இந்த காடியிலே தோய்த்துக் கொள்” என்று ரூத்திடம் சொன்னான். எனவே ரூத் வேலைக்காரர்களோடு உட்கார்ந்தாள். போவாஸ் அவளுக்குக் கொஞ்சம் வறுத்த கோதுமையைக் கொடுத்தான். அவள் வயிறு நிறைய சாப்பிட்டாள். எனினும் உணவு மிஞ்சியது.

உணவுவேளை வந்ததும் போவாசு ரூத்திடம், “இங்கே வந்து இந்த அப்பத்தை எடுத்துப் புளித்த திராட்சை இரசத்தில் தோய்த்துச் சாப்பிடு” என்றார். அவரும் அவ்வாறே போய் அறுவடையாள்களுடன் உட்கார்ந்து கொண்டார். போவாசு அவருக்கு வருத்த பயறும் கொடுத்தார். அவர் பசிதீர உண்டபின்னும் சிறிதளவு உணவு எஞ்சியது.
